I got word of two insider buys at Antigenics (AGEN) totaling 10,000 shares by a director:

The last time I wrote of an insider buy of AGEN was Sept. 2007 where the CEO bought 50,000 shares at an average price of $1.93. [See Insider Buying at AGEN by Chairman and CEO Garo H. Armen.] About 6 months later, the stock peaked at $3.90.

I added to my position on Friday's news with the hope of selling into a similar advance.

Details:

Director = Classification of Insider
JOHN HATSOPOULOS = Name
$17k = Value of I-Buy trade(s)
10k = Number of Shares
$1.71 = Average Price Paid
$1.68 = Recent Stock Price (delayed)
155k = Average Daily Volume (composite time frame)
$111M = Company Market Capitalization
2008-09-03 = Purchase Date
2008-09-05 = Filing Date

Key Info

0.89 = Beta
7.60% = Short Interest
15.9 = Short Ratio (days)
12-Aug-08 = Date of Above Short Information

Disclaimer:

I personally own AGEN as a long term investment and trade its volatility for added return. I also cover AGEN in "Kirk Lindstrom's Investment Newsletter." For my specific buy and sell targets, you need to Subscribe to Kirk's Investment Newsletter.

Warning:

AGEN is a very high risk stock because it has no profits and revenue is only 6 cents a share for a price-to-sales ratio of a whopping 29!

    This is a fairly pathetic dollar value of insider buying, no?

    Well, I'd love to see more insider buying for sure, but it is a tiny market cap ($111M) so you won't expect to see $5M buys like we get at GE without the buy moving the stock up significantly.

    I'm not recommending this as a long term, major buy... but I like to tag along when insiders are buying if possible.

    This is NOT a good sign. If there was going to be a sale of the company, insiders wouldn't be trading at all. A 10K buy/sell is nothing as they are issued about the same for zero.

    This means that any possible sale of the company is 60 days off.
