  • Steve Jobs: Not Dead Yet
appl is an ipod/3g story, try not to spend too much time thinking about the things that don't matter. If he did die, we should worry about it... if bloomberg goofs, don't worry man.

  • Why Should I Own Gold?
A lot of the responces have pointed out reasons why one may wish to be short the dollar. Still however that hasn't been a good explination as to why gold would be the investment to hold. Simply stating that the dollar is weak or that the US is broke does not lead to a deductive conclusion that gold should be bought. What I am really looking for here is a reason to own gold, not reasons to be short USD.

  • comScore 1, Google 0
Interesting, but after the way google schooled ComScore two quarters ago, you really have to give google at least a point. Although I think google should get far more then that, the very minimum would have to be goog 1 comscore 1.

  • SEC Goes After Shorts: Killing the Messenger
There is a rule already against naked shorting, and for everyone but market makers it should be strictly enforced. Additionally, failures to deliver should be harshly treated. Neither Ackman, Einhorn, Loeb nor Tilson have been shorting naked... they are savvy players who follow the rules. I am sure everyone of them would agree that the rules should should be enforced. The SEC is out of control... they temporarily made it harder to break the rules, then let that expire? What sense does that make? That is like removing traffic cameras because people start running red lights less once they are installed...

  • GE: Why Buying on Weakness Is an Excellent Idea
It is going to be, in retrospect, an obvious choice to buy not only GE right here, but the banks as well.

  • The Bedrock Case for the Return of the Gold Bull
I still don't get what the point of owning gold in an investment account is... A trade maybe, but to own it? Why?

  • Gold Is At a Critical Juncture
"Banks settle their debts in gold"

    What banks do that?

Also, do you really believe that the currency will go away? I mean, that seems kind of extreme.

  • Gold Is At a Critical Juncture
I mean, it seems to me like long gold is a very tough trade to make or be in right now... Seems like oil is crashing... gold will not do well if oil keeps crashing.

  • Fixed Income: Little Value in Treasuries, Preferred Financials Yielding 8%
I held over 12 financial pfds this year going into July, I felt like they were a better place to hide then most financial equities. They day after I got scared and liquidated in my last financial equity (GS) at 164 I realized I was wrong. I took a hard look at my positions, I closed all but two of my pfds and switched into bank stocks... mostly USB, BAC, and on a lark I bought some WB. I am still holding them, although I have traded WB back and forth once. For PFDs? I have taken what was an average position size of about 1% of my portfolio and liquidated most of them to buy the equities... I have also however boosted 2 particular PFDs into top ten holdings.
