Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know Newsby SA Editor Rachael Granby- Bank trio becomes duo. Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought.
- Government considers next steps. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits. The moves, which would mark the government's most extensive intervention to date, are in discussion stages only.
- Credit stays frozen. As frozen credit markets refuse to thaw, the cost of default protection on corporate bonds reaches new global records amid investor concerns the credit crisis will trigger corporate failures as companies struggle to finance their businesses. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.

3M (MMM) -- The moment this stock starts yielding 5%, I'm a buyer. Until then, keep your powder dry.Bearish Calls:Computer Sciences (CSC) -- This is a company that was going to be bought, but they passed up the chance. Now I don't want to buy it."Email continues...
Annaly Mortgage (NLY) -- I think this is a business model that needs to borrow money. Definitively do not buy."

Credit Card Breakdown: AmEx Disappoints, as Predicted
you might want to buy ma. grossly undervalued at 2009 valuation trading lower than its projected 2009 growth.

Suncor, US Bancorp and MasterCard: Using a Stop Loss When Investing
even at 280, it is trading at 25 times or so for 2009 valuation for a company that is growing close to 30% and expected to grow at the same rate.
the market has simply thrown the baby out of the bed.
expect the master to scroch and go to 350 after july 31 smash beat. they should definitely do a stock split as average investor is increasingly getting priced out due to the stock price.
Suncor, US Bancorp and MasterCard: Using a Stop Loss When Investing
bro, you nailed it.
if the company's story is intact and market thrashes the stock, just add it. it just does not get better than that.
mastercard 240/250/260 was a gift not a trendline broken stuff.
Suncor, US Bancorp and MasterCard: Using a Stop Loss When Investing
how short sighted the author is. from a technical point it is okay to see chart. but from long term perspective mastercard was a strong buy at 240/250/260. it is one of the cheapest stock trading at the same rate as its growth.

Why American Express Should Be Ignored
but remember even with v at 70, ma is dead cheap. so cheap it is trading at par with its growth for trailing and forward valuation. if market gives v, ma's valuation, v should be 60 to 64. this is hard to believe but in this bear market valuation compression will happen as it is happening for ma.
at 80 for v, it is really insane valuation. this means a 20% eps growth company like v, is being valued double that. no wonder it was sold off.
v has breached 70 support is super heavy volume. i wont touch v here. i will wait to see if 68 or 65 support holds.
as always ma is a strong buy here. <<<<matrader.blogspot.com&...;>>>
remember discover beat by 13%. v will smash by 25% and ma by 40%. why ma more beat. simple hyper europe story and strong global play. visa less of a beat because of strong america play where credit card market is to the full level.
Gaps in Mastercard and Fluor Are Being Filled
at 220 and visa at 80 means visa is doubly expensive (at 40 times current earnings and 33 times 2009 one's). i dont think market will allow it to go 220.
today it rocketed up on heavy volume. i think 240 is a huge base and it will base around 260 to 280 or worst 250 to 270 and then rocket 75 points from there after a monster 35 to 40% beat (2.75 versus 2.03 expected).

Pair Trade Visa and Capital One
even rimm has not been this bad as mastercard. infact mastercard beat 59 cents huge and double guided.
if i tell somebody to look at mastercard stock, they see as though i am recommending a company that has missed last earnings by a dollar or so :-)!!!!

Everything Financial Rolls Over: Is a Bounce Likely?
My Investment Philosophy and Visa
if you ever buy ma, you will get instant heart attack due to its swing.
and that swing gives amazing trading opportunities. sitting in home with 100k in cash you can play ma and make 2k everyday. of course if you buy and it goes less, then wait it out for a couple of days and ma will always bounce back.
same with visa. market loves aapl and v like nothing else. so in v also you can go long/short like ma and make a killing.
note that for long position, both of these are huge buy and hold. 5%, 8%, 10% cut loss kind of thing is just not going to help you in long term at all.
check my blog matrader.blogspot.com if you want to play ma.
you want to know how much i spent on my visa and mastercard this weekend just for essential purchases. see the list.
sams club - 120 dollars
brake pad change - 240
groceries in safeway/kroger - 82
gas - 74
note all the above were basic purchases. and i did not pay even a single dime in cash. i alternated between my visa debit and mastercard credit.
cash is dead, plastics are not.
Visa Stock Ownership Has Its Privileges
if you had got visa at 56, 60, 65, 70, 75, 78 - DO NOT SELL. have this as a core position and trade around and buy/sell around the core position that visa is trading which is 80 to 88.
if you had got ma at 150, 190, 220, 270, 280 - DO NOT SELL. have this as core and trade around ma which is ranging from 280 to 300.
both are superstars and for BIG TIME buy/hold.
check my blog on ma at matrader.blogspot.com
Visa: Why I Sold All of My Shares
analyse the fundamentals, buy/hold the stock. you can make money. you should have seen the scron on ma when it was 150. you can hear it again when it is 290, you will hear it again at 400 after oct 2008 qtr.
checkout my blog at matrader.blogspot.com
Visa Stock Ownership Has Its Privileges
but i would suggest not to recommend option trading as lot of seekingalpha readers might be novices.
always going long on stock and trading around it is a better option.
you can catch up on mastercard which is expected july 28 to 31. last qtr was smash 59 cents, this qtr after double guidance on their conf call, it should be 40 to 70 cents for sure.
have you seen a stock that if beats by 15 cents is considered a miss!!!!. it is our super ma. catch up on mastercard at my blog matrader.blogspot.com
Visa: Why I Sold All of My Shares
see my mastercard blog at matrader.blogspot.com/
plastic story has not stopped and no need to panic for small market movements. if you had got mastercard at 150 when everybody was so skeptical or visa at 60 when everybody hated to touch it, you could have tens of thousands.
see the fundamentals of the company and don't sell it based on day to day stock movement.
the plastic story is just starting in many of the world regions and mastercard (and visa) will only continue to grow.
U.S. Credit Card Performance: More Deterioration in April
if you missed ma after smash earnings, after smash guidance, now is a great chance.
and hey don't worry about those who complain on plastic. mastercard story is global and in global world plastics is a new thing and also they have much more discipline to pay money regularly in europe, asia pac, india, brazil, russia, etc.
Expecting Upside in MasterCard as SunTrust Jacks Target to $390
i have started it just now and hope to beef up and give bash free news. both +ve and -ve news will be there. but not bashing...
"cash in wallet: $20; cash in car deck: $12; cash in wife's wallet: $40; cash with my little son: $0; having mastercard with me always: priceless".
