    If 9% more domestic oil is not important, how would you feel to lose 9% right now? Take Nigerian oil out of the picture.     The obvious problem is Congress. However, if you "vote the bums out", some more bums take their places. Barnburner above, has a good point but how stupid are we to just keep making the same mistakes? Put some teeth in a reasonable program to maximize domestic sources AND alternatives.

    The cumulative effect of multiple domestic sources of new oil, even if it is many years away, just has to be a plus for US supply and price at the pump. Clearly the transition to alternative forms of energy is going to happen but in the mean time....

    Remember that Peak Oil refers to a peak in the world's ability to extract, process and deliver oil. It does not suggest that the reserves are not half depleted. The price that the world is willing to pay for it will determine when we reach equilibrium. To emphasize the finite nature of anything is not operating in the real, immediate world. Making a buck today and tomorrow is not affected by "Peak Oil".
