Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know Newsby SA Editor Rachael Granby- Bank trio becomes duo. Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought.
- Government considers next steps. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits. The moves, which would mark the government's most extensive intervention to date, are in discussion stages only.
- Credit stays frozen. As frozen credit markets refuse to thaw, the cost of default protection on corporate bonds reaches new global records amid investor concerns the credit crisis will trigger corporate failures as companies struggle to finance their businesses. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.

USO: Is a Probable Capitulation in the Works?
thanx, very good article. very helpful on how to play this.
long on oil
thanx, lol.
Why We Need Higher Gas Prices
looks like you should seek govt. employment. with your socialist engineering preferences you will fit right in. the market seems an odd place for you. use the law to distort the market and force everyone to comply to the green wishes.
socialism has failed everytime except for primitive tribal communities and the temporary kibutz situation that israel used to help immigrants get ready to care for themselves.
the latest example of failure is right here in the good ol' usa. i know the propaganda says it was the free market. if you believe that then obama is a good honest man and reform is on the way. just another corrupt piece of refuse from illinois. anybody catch axelrod lying on meet the press yesterday? he is a polished lier but the senate seat scandal seems to evoke panic. cover-up. will the marxist slither out of this one? probably. he has a large corp of zealots and fanatics to fall back on.
we hate those haters and we won't tolerate their intolerance.
The Technicals Say It's Time for Oil
looks to me like oil, gold, silver, ng, uranium, non-landfill items may be the way to go. i don't see much way around some pretty scary inflation once the money involved in these bailouts starts to feed into the system.
since obviously printing money has no basis in reality anymore why not suspend taxation and just print. that should stimulate some consumption and maybe even a little saving?
maybe we could hedge electricity with the developing home solar or wind or both depending on geography. the 1 home systems are becoming more affordable.
Soaring Silver, Stalling Gold
i hold silver and gold long term like insurance. i was buying in the 90's when the market was booming and metals were down.
i don't quite trust the paper markets especially in silver. there seem to be discrepancies in physical supplies and shares and futures.
lately i have been doing pretty good on gold explorers. to me playing with any stock is very different from physical holdings. i think there may be some problems that will eventually surface with things like slv and gld.
silverwood
thanx. i will take a closer look at mvg.
Thank Goodness for Government … Work
to err is human, to completely screw up takes government.
there has been much political propaganda blaming the free market. there was no free market. there has been no free market. the politicians pointed there to get most people to look anywhere but where the blame lies. government. ours is a gigantic sucking tick that has broken its' chains and has been sucking the life from the productive here for decades. it is the same crap as blaming oil (indirectly) for deficits and our staggering debt. the inept in washington want us to think they are forced to spend 700 billion in tax dollars per year for oil. another lie.
i do not suffer from obamamania. the course he has chosen is the same as usual. he appoints those (most) that were part of this mess. what change? bailout the banksters for years of donations? bail out the uaw for the same reasons? this is pure politics rotten to the core. he ran a scam on the altruistic young and the abysmally ignorant and won. i doubt mccain would have been any better but he is irrelevant now. until the u.s. wakes up to the fact that govtment is a poor servant and a dreadful master we will continue to get more of the same.
meet the new boss, same as the old boss....

Traffic Volume Continues to Decrease in October
nice. why not just round up those useless eaters and send 'em to the showers. hey every dead body means less use of resources. maybe it is time to check babies in the womb and let the govt. decide who is worthy. the new marxist seems to have a pretty brutal stance on abortion. maybe he will cull the herd for you as he nationalises healthcare. no help for anyone over 65? 62? 50? 40? 30?
Nuclear and Coal: The Energy 'Dream Team' for Years to Come
pardon my ignorance. is tmen on an american exchange? just wondering what the ob stands for. thanx.
Nuclear and Coal: The Energy 'Dream Team' for Years to Come
i have been trying to narrow down where to invest on the pebble reactor. any ideas on those. hyperion doesn't sell stock. i guess china? is the best place to look on this one.
there is also a large project on liquid coal in china but i am having a hard time figuring out where to invest on this too.
already a long term holder of bhp. have you ever looked at silex and their new enrichment process. i believe ge, ccj, and maybe a japanese power company are nearing completion on a facility for enrichment using the silex process here in the u.s.. seems like silex should do very well as their superior tech comes to fruition. any thoughts? on silex?
Natural Gas Transportation Is a Win-Win Technology
don't get me wrong. i value your articles. i have been buying up ng and oil. i almost called chk's recent bottom and grabbed it.
i guess politically i am a constitutionalist. minimal govt.. i won't defend but a handful of federal "servants" because nearly all stink with corruption.
i appreciate that you come back and respond.
one of these days when we both have time we'll talk about clinton economics and bush/clinton treason.
last time we talked about something we disagreed on (global warming and ice core samples) i learned from it.
just in case you didn't catch my last note to you, sometime when you have time check out evacuated tube transport, et3. this looks like a viable solution to transportation energy. it is a huge improvement on the j-pod. last i heard the chinese were looking closely at the little company and were in talks with them.
Natural Gas Transportation Is a Win-Win Technology
i'm no bush fan. my mention of him is not complimentary. i only give him some of the blame for our current state. there is plenty to go around. the loose credit policies started further back and the many congresses deserve their fair share. i don't think anything i said can be taken as approval for george jr. i don't listen to rush. i just think bo will prove to be the same kind of statist animal as the rest.
polecats stink. such is life. my comment on the rev. was just what the man said. i happen to agree on that one. politicians lie.
from the limited knowledge the public gets i would have followed a much harder policy on terrorism. it would have reacted slower and much stronger. i would not have put soldiers on the ground unless there was a need for covert surgical because the navy jets could not reach the identified targets. after retribution i would have simply warned that another terrorist attack would be dealt with in an even harsher manner. but i don't get to read intelligence reports so that is guessing.
i went back and reread my post to be sure. i don't see where you got your response. is it possible to not like bush, clinton or bo?
