  • Has GM Changed Its Tune Yet?
You say 30 miles per gallon like that is a lot! Actually 30mpg is not acceptable anymore. With $4 or $5 gas looming on the horizon, I think domestics should set their sights a little higher. Total electric cars appear to be the only way. And I don't mean an electric car with a turbocharged engine on it to charge the battery! Am I going to have to make a trip to Detroit to show them how to build a car that gets decent mileage??

  • Lots of Buzz Over Broadband Enabled TVs, But Impact Won't Be Felt for Many Years
Does this mean I won't have to get off the couch to go to the computer as I am now doing?

  • As Goes GM, So Goes U.S. Government Credit
I saw a neat little car on tv today. It was a Nissan (I forget the other name) but it costs less than $10000. It's probably a pretty good little car. Why can American car companies come up with something like that instead of pushing suvs?

  • Broadband: Why Government Investment Is Justified Now
In my small neck of the woods DSL isn't offered. All the cable companies either want you to bundle all their services together or rip you off on the price. I guess for now I'm stuck with this stupid 28kbs dial up. I think I'll start downloading a movie tonight...uh no phone calls for a week or so. If I go on vacation, by the time I get back it should be done!

  • 111th Congress Convenes Monday: Let the Games Begin
Yeah, why do we need rules and laws for anyway? Let's all just do whatever we want and if one of the current laws don't agree with us, lets just change it or go ahead and break it. Seems to work for the higher-ups.

  • Lesson Learned from Madoff's Ponzi Scheme
The one thing I learned this last year (the hard way) is not to put too much money in any one investment. I'll probably be waiting for a long time before certain investments come up in value so I can afford to split them up.

  • GMAC Bailout Flaws: No Appreciation of History
It's possible there is no answer to our financial problems. Try as we might for easy answers to GM and everybody elses problems, it just might be that we now have to pay the piper. The piper being, businesses going bankrupt, high unemployment, etc. You can only do so much with fuzzy math. The numbers haven't added up for several years now, and the more we try to manipulate them the worse off we are.

  • What Will Happen If America Returns to an Historical Savings Rate?
One thing I didn't see mentioned in comparison of Japan to US is America's growing illegal (and legal) immigration problem. People flocking in here by the thousands to take what few jobs that are left after corporate America decided to head for greener pastures.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News
As far as GMAC and the banks go...why would they ever have loaned money to anyone that couldn't repay; I still don't get it.
As for business..I don't see anything secure except funeral homes and the lawyers who draw up the bankruptcy papers.
All this bad news is probably good for us in the long run. It will teach us to live within our means like most people used to do.
I remember back when I was just starting school that when a neighbor bought something new such as a car or major home appliance it meant that he was doing well. When I see a neighbor doing that today it means to me that he has refinanced his loan.
In the future I hope loans will be harder to get and interest rates will rise so that people will only buy what they can afford and the rest of us won't be called upon to pay their loans off for them.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News
Please don't encourage Congress to do anything...the last thing the working people need is another gas tax. They enact a gas tax when it is low priced and it is here to stay forever, even when gas gets to $4.50 a gallon. With Democrats in there will be enough taxes to go around without any encouragement.

  • Why We Need Higher Gas Prices
Another thing that disturbs me is the building of so many hybrid cars, thinking that will solve our problem. I would much rather see Americans have 1 fuel efficient gas car and 1 electric car for multi-car families. The reason is that automakers are going to try to get us hooked on hybrids the way they did on SUVs. Hybrids combine all the parts of electric cars and gasoline cars, so when they get a little age on them we will be continually running to the parts stores, like we are now. Not to mention the high price of the hybrids compared to gas or battery cars. But that's what the carmakers like to do, sell you something you really don't want!

  • Why We Need Higher Gas Prices
I don't think it would kill us if we would at least make an electric car part of our arsenal. A whole bunch of families have at least 2 cars and some have lots more than that. It would save several million barrels of oil if those families had one electric car to do short errands downtown or shopping, etc. And yes, solar battery chargers for them would help that much more. I think I saw an electric Ford Ranger, 1999, if I'm not mistaken on ebay yesterday. This wasn't a homemade conversion, but a stock vehicle built by Ford. The vehicle will go 60 miles on a charge and will go 75 mph.
These vehicles are still overpriced, but as time passes and more are on the road, I think prices will go down, then I'll buy one.
