  • Solarfun Power Holdings: Expect a Rally from Key Support
singh, I'm not sure how options work. Does that mean you make a profit at $17.50 + $1.70 = $19.20 or is the $1.70 for the 100 lot and thus equal to $.17 per share? What is your time period that is given with your call option?

  • Solarfun Power Holdings: Expect a Rally from Key Support
Anyone have any comments on the very low forward 12mos. P/E (adding up estimated earning for next 4 quarters) for SOLF and YGE?

Go look at the entire solar sector for earnings. SOL up, TSL up, YGE up, CSIQ up, STP up, and LDK up. SOLF announces 8/27. It really shows that solar is for real -- even in this relatively poor world economy. The efficiencies from volume production should continually improve their profit margins. Contracts are covering 2008 and many have a majority of 2009 in place already. No other sector really can compare with this. Incidently, WIND stocks are also doing well. Alternative energy has a bright future in efforts to help reduce pollution of our earth and to reduce oil use.

  • Trina Solar Q2 2008 Earnings Call Transcript
The solar sector is the only sector that is producing very high sales and earnings growth, despite the overall market being down. These earnings are continuing and forward one year estimates are very good. We have very low P/Es for many of the solar stocks so they are good values.
However, the everday volume on these stocks is relatively high so the only problem is that stock holders are willing to sell these stocks to raise cash instead of holding them, even at these very low prices. It is simply supply and demand. When stock holders stop selling, prices will go up.

  • Canadian Solar Swoons, Despite Beat and Raise
Short term investing is like sitting around a poker table playing against other short term investors. They are just trying to out guess the others on today's direction so stocks can go up or down for no justifiable reason. The solar sector is very big in short term "betting". Don't look for long term reasons to explain the short term marketplace. Also there is a big dip in the economy and the money available for investing is down which can keep some very good stocks depressed. You have to have a long term horizon to tolerate the volatility in alternative energy stocks -- as well as many other industries.

  • Yingli Green Energy: Tidy Earnings Bump Up Against Anti-Solar Sentiment
I looked at the solar sector yesterday when YGE went DOWN (with excellent earnings) and the majority of the solar stocks all went UP. I do not understand why YGE had a sell-off with such good earnings. The forward P/E is under 2 with good earnings projected for the next four quarters. Does anyone have any REAL INSIGHT rather than OPINIONS? I emailed YGE suggesting they start a stock buy back at these low prices but not sure if they have that much free cash since they are investing in growth.

  • Solarfun Power: The Next Solar Giant?
SOLF and YGE have the lowest forward P/E estimates in the solar group. Cash flow has been given for a reason of the low FPE but I think everything will work out great for solar as the earnings show they are sustainable. I presently own and am buy more solar stocks since they have been beaten down by speculators/shorts. I own almost everything except ENER, FSLR, and SPWR.

  • Selling Some Yingli and Trina Solar on Dead Cat Bounce
To tell the truth, I have no idea what the market is going to do later or tomorrow on the solar stocks. They should be 2X to 3X their present price if judged on earnings. I am long in these stocks but have to tune out the short term trades UP/DOWN.

  • Broadwind Energy: Cramer, Someone Had to Say Something
I think that there are many ways that you can look at the stock's value. I prefer EARNINGS growth !! Yes margin deterioration can be an issue but if it is more than OFFSET with sales growth, the net result is increased EARNINGS growth - the money in the pocket. This is ECONOMICS 101 and is not uncommon in a growing industry. That is why companies often give volume discounts to key customers so they net more EARNINGS at the expense of less margin. As far as tchannon is concerned, his comments may have contributed to damage to other investors.

  • Solarfun Earnings Could be the Perfect Trigger for a Short Squeeze
I think the huge short position has to do with a very large quantity of bonds issued by SOLF in January 08 that can be converted to stock to sell at a profit -- and the bond holders bought shorts to protect their value. So here is my question:

If the stock has the potential to rise significantly in price, why would the bond holder convert and sell at a much lower price (not maximize their return)? Isn't it likely that the shorts would need to be covered next week and the rising price would delay the bond holders from converting/selling until they feel there is a peak reached that is much higher than Friday's price???? That would really put the squeeze on the shorts !
