    Good article. Very clear and well thought out. As much as I hope you may be wrong, the odds of trying to repair this enormous financial breakdown in a year or two is simply wishful thinking. But I do like what Obama has done so far.

    You sound so dire. I think much will rest on the shoulders of our next President. A sound energy policy will be an important first step. But overall, I think the financial markets got ahead of themselves. Once real estate bottoms out, then real growth can return.

    Good article. All your points are valid, and sadly true. The only questions I would counter with are-

    1) Where are these people supposed to live? At least they have a roof over their head with tax deductible interest. Property taxes should drop over time as well.

    2) Investing should be long term. When I buy a stock, I don't expect it to go up overnight.

    Granted, the numbers are a lot larger and the situation is more complicated. But in this case I think time is your friend.
