Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know Newsby SA Editor Rachael Granby- Bank trio becomes duo. Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought.
- Government considers next steps. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits. The moves, which would mark the government's most extensive intervention to date, are in discussion stages only.
- Credit stays frozen. As frozen credit markets refuse to thaw, the cost of default protection on corporate bonds reaches new global records amid investor concerns the credit crisis will trigger corporate failures as companies struggle to finance their businesses. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.

Three Potential Biotech Takeover Targets
Instead of three biotech takeover targets, I'd like to see the SEC clean up for once, the RESEARCH FIRMS, THEIR EXPERTS, THEIR HIGH TARGET PRICES, INCLUDING THE 5 STAR- STAR MINE EXPERTS WHO ARE MISS-INFORMING THE INVESTORS, BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE COMPANY FOR YEARS AND
HAVE FORMED SOME KIND OF ALLIANCE WITH THAT SPECIFIC COMPANY.
MANY CURRENT COMPANIES WITH THE WORSE STATISTICS,FUNDAMENTAL... HIGHEST BURN RATES WITH LITTLE REVENUE
KEEP ISSUING NEW STOCK OR LOOKING FOR PARTNERS SO THAT MANAGEMENT CAN STILL COLLECT A PAY CHECK.
THIS IS BY FAR NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE SHAREHOLDERS. BUT NO ONE OVERSEES THE COMPANY, THE DIRECTORS DO NOT HOLD MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABLE,
AND THE SHAREHOLDERS KEEP LOSING THEIR SHIRTS WHILE THE INVESTORS BECOME THE COMPANIES BEST PIPELINE TO STAY IN BUSINESS.
THE FOUNDATION OF TRUST IS SHATTERED IN AMERICA!
MDRNA INC(MRNA) FUNDAMENTAL SOUNDNESS EVALUATION SUMMARY 10/03/08
DEC.3RD PIPER JAFFREY CONFERENCE
DEC.3RD. DE-LISTING STATUS & ANNOUNCEMENT TO SEC ON HOW IT WILL COMPLY.
ALTHOUGH IT CLOSED AT $.29 CENTS AND IS IN A COMPLETE STRONG DOWNTREND ACCORDING TO INO.COM, MAYBE MANAGEMENT MAY ANNOUNCE A PARTNERSHIP TO STOP THE BLEEDING.
FINDING A PARTNER DURING A CREDIT CRISIS WOULD BE MUSIC TO MANAGEMENTS EARS AND SHAREHOLDERS. OTHERWISE THE ONLY OTHER ITEMS TO LOOK FORWARD TO ARE THE WORST YEAR END EARNINGS REPORT IN JANUARY 2009.
SINCE THE FDA CALENDAR LIST OF COMPANIES IS NOW OUT FOR THE NEXT THREE MONTHS, AND 'MRNA' IS NOT ON IT, WITHOUT A ANNOUNCEMENT OF A PARTNERSHIP, THE CURRENT 'BURN' RATE WILL EAT UP THE REMAINING CASH ON HAND FOR 2009.
HIGH LEVELS OF STRESS IS EVER PRESENT FOR MANAGEMENT, AND TO AVOID HAVING TO LOOK FOR EMPLOYMENT ELSEWHERE.
EVERYONE WANTS A HAPPY ENDING IN LIFE, HOWEVER, "YOU KNOW HOW IT WILL END".
Biotech: The Next Big Bubble?
Certain biotech stocks have lost to date between 90%-95% of it's stock value. But investors see this as opportunity and on the other hand, why then isn't management buying up the stock during this time?
Logic is replaced with GREED!
Your article is precise and clear. But you can't help investors who do not want to be helped. As an investor I appreciate your article and it has only confirmed my exact thoughts. Thank you!
Stocks: Is the Tide Turning?
America be prepared, the gauntlet has been issued! And Mr.Plessis you left out an important factor that is sobering.
Nov.27th-Happy Thanksgiving
Since late October the market has had multiple corrections and the recent four day rally consecutively, is not to be taken as "AN ALL CLEAR SIGN". Rather, now more than before investors should be positioned in cash for the next several months.
This is not a time to begin looking for bargains, just yet. I am not an alarmist by no means, but we are vulnerable to the forthcoming World events that will effect the stock market. Terrorist activity has begun in India just yesterday, and already their stock market has closed done today. The severity level of a well planned attack indicates to me that this is just the beginning of more to follow in the days ahead. And this is the ultimate warning sign that America better adhere to, because I am afraid to say we are definitely included in the overall bigger plan that is beginning to unfold. Between the economic crisis, unemployment heading to 10% by January, foreclosures, and a newly elected President to be sworn in January, the stage is set for radicals/terrorists to gain World wide attention while everyone is watching and feeling the pain financially.
This uncertainty and potential attacks that may happen in the New York area and Washington D.C. area, would certainly effect the stock market with negative consequences. Since the India terrorist attacks are of large scale proportions, it is evident to me that Wall Street itself remains to be the number one target to gain the biggest recognition and front page story to be read around the World.
We are in the most vulnerable position right now for being attacked, therefore it probably more than likely will happen.
MRNA: 9 MONTHS OF STOCK DOWNTREND AND IT IS STILL NOT OVER!
THERE ARE 38 DAYS LEFT IN THIS YEAR AND INVESTORS ARE STILL HOPING AND CLINGING TO A STOCK THAT NOT PERFORMED WELL.
ON THE TABLE NOW IS KNOWING THE YEAR END REPORT ON EARNINGS WILL SHOW A BIG LOSS, COME IN JANUARY, THE ONLY HOPE FOR INVESTORS OR MANAGEMENT IS A *PARTNER*.
A PARTNER WILLING TO INVEST AT A TIME OF STOCK MARKET INSTABILITY, A CREDIT CRISIS, A DEPRECIATING STOCK PRICE AND WITH A DEPLETING CASH RESERVES.
AND TO INVEST IN THIS COMPANY AND NOT CONSIDERING OTHER COMPANIES THAT MAY HAVE GREATER POTENTIAL RETURNS ON THEIR MONEY.
COMPANIES AROUND THE UNITED STATES ARE FALLING INTO BANKRUPTCY LIKE DOMINOES' LATELY, BUT CURRENT SHAREHOLDERS ARE NOT CONCERNED AT ALL. EVEN BMO CAPITAL HAS GIVEN A STAR RATING ON THIS STOCK JUST OVER A WEEK AGO. WHY? I DON'T KNOW!
New Emerging Biotech and Pharma Company Index
OR IS IT BECAUSE THEY ARE ON A DE-LISTING STATUS ? OR THEIR HIGH BURN RATE?
LASTLY, HOW COME THIS STOCK HASN'T BEEN MENTIONED ON SEEKING ALPHA SINCE THE DAYS JIMMY CRAMMER TOUTED IT.
INVESTORS LOVE HYPE AND AS LONG AS THERE IS STILL HOPE, NO MATTER HOW DOOMED THE STOCK BECOMES, THEY ARE STILL IN IT, STILL BUYING IT AND CHASING IT UNTIL IT GOES UNDER A DIME!
MDRNA INC(MRNA) FUNDAMENTAL SOUNDNESS EVALUATION SUMMARY 10/03/08
FUNDAMENTAL SOUNDNESS EVALUATION SUMMARY-(MRNA) IS AT THE CROSS-ROADS!
FINDING A ‘PARTNER’ DURING THE CURRENT CREDIT ENVIRONMENT IS ESSENTIAL FOR SURVIVAL. THE TIMING COULDN’T BE ANY WORSE RIGHT NOW FOR MANAGEMENT AND SHAREHOLDERS.
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, HOWEVER THE ODDS ARE OVERWHELMING TO SAY THE LEAST!
REALISTICALLY SPEAKING.................
The company won't make any revenue until it has a product that has been approved and licensed for distribution by the FDA. So in order to stay in business, the company must either receive milestone payments from the companies they license drug candidates' from, raise equity (which causes shareholder dilution), or raise debt (which is very costly in the current credit environment).
The other drug discovery candidates are at the preclinical stage and seem to be too far behind to have any chance of generating revenue without one of the above three scenarios occurring to maintain operations.
My extimates which can be confirmed by looking at their 20F filing,
seems to be that they are burning through cash at about $1.5 million -
$2 million a month and have enough cash to last a year. This would imply that they have about 4.5 months left of cash to maintain operations.
SO IN CONCLUSION, WHILE THE STOCK MARKET CONTINUES TO BE IN TURMOIL, AND CREDIT IS TIGHTENING ALL OVER, WILL THEY FIND A ‘PARTNER’ WITH DEEP POCKETS SOON WITH ALL THAT IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW? THAT IS THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION,
SO STAY TUNED AND LITERALLY “SPIN THE WHEEL” WHILE YOU PLACE YOUR BETS (HARD EARNED MONEY).
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS KEEP ONE FOOT ON THE GROUND!
MDRNA INC(MRNA) FUNDAMENTAL SOUNDNESS EVALUATION SUMMARY 10/03/08
GREED SEEMS TO BEST DESCRIBE CURRENT INVESTORS. IT REPLACES ALL THE FUNDAMENTALS THAT TELLS YOU THIS COMPANY ISN'T A GOOD INVESTMENT. SAME SCENARIO HAS HELD TRUE FOR THE PAST 24 MONTHS OR PAST 24 YEARS! NOW IF THE STOCK PRICE HAS BEEN DECIMATED, AND THE STATS ARE VERY POOR, THEN WHY AT THIS POINT IN TIME, WOULD ANYONE WANT TO PARTNER WITH THIS COMPANY? THESE INVESTORS ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN ALCOHOLICS.
AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY, THE DISEASE SUPER-CEDES ALL LOGIC AND TRUTH.
NEW MANAGEMENT REPLACES THOSE THAT MIGHT HAVE PARTICIPATED IN POTENTIAL WRONG DOINGS. AND BY HAVING THEM LEAVE THE COMPANY ALTOGETHER, THEY ARE LESS LIKELY TO BE QUESTIONED ABOUT THE PAST IN MY POINT OF VIEW.
MDRNA INC(MRNA) FUNDAMENTAL SOUNDNESS EVALUATION SUMMARY 10/03/08
SINCE THEY MORE THAN LIKELY CAN'T RAISE FURTHER MONEY THROUGH 'NEW ISSUANCE' OF SHARES, BECAUSE THOSE THAT INVESTED TWICE IN 24 MONTHS HAVE ALL BUT LOST EVERYTHING TO DATE, IT SEEMS THAT ONLY A PARTNERSHIP IS THE ANSWER NOW. EXCEPT WHO WILL PARTNER IN THESE TIMES AND THEIR RECORD? I THINK THE SIDE SHOW AND ALL THE GLITTER THEY HYPE HAS JUST ABOUT LOST ITS SPARKLE NOW.
WITHOUT THE FUEL OF "MONEY' SOONER THAN LATTER THEY ARE GOING TO RUN OUT OF GAS.
IMAGINE FROM $20 DOLLARS TO $.41 CENTS
WHICH HAS TURNED 'HOPE' INTO 'DESPAIR' BY NOW.
Market Update: Roche/Genentech Deal, AstraZeneca's New Statin, Yahoo, Microsoft Deal?
Why don't you do a piece about biotech's who have accomplished nothing in 25 years, are in debt up to their necks but still exist.
Sort of a BEWARE Biotech's report.
Will Global Equity Markets Pass or Fail Today's Test?
Raising of taxes, capital gains, and chronic unemployment, will only add to the high waves of foreclosures. By the time Obama is sworn in office the tides of recession will begin to turn to massive inflation. The jubilant backers of Obama and the Democrats after the inaugural ball will begin to feel the process of a sobering depression within 4 months and the realization of the true definition of what FEAR means.
Feelings of being overwhelmed will take over as Foreclosures increase, retirement portfolio's decrease further due to market reaction of instability, and unemployment sky rockets.
Within 60 days the Dow will be hit several times more, setting the stage for public out cries and demonstrations.
We will see the final wrath from all the Banks,CEO'S, Fannie & Freddie, the Wall street debacle, and Washington's House representatives
miss-doings, while they remain in charge.
We will see 'CHANGE' like we never expected, and I fear the worse is yet to come.
ALL THOSE WONDERFUL CITIZENS WHO STOLE FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, EITHER RETIRED RICH, OR THEY STILL REMAIN WITH THEIR POSITIONS TO CONTINUE TO EXERT THEIR POWERS. THE DEMOCRAT GANG JUST GOT STRONGER UNDER 'OBAMA' AND WE WILL BECOME A SOCIETY OF EITHER RICH OR POOR, WHILE THE MIDDLE CLASS ERODES TO THE POOR LEVEL.
*This is not a time to invest or bottom fishing as they say, because the tidal waves of distress are still on its way".
You notice, no one to date has elected a committee, to go after those on Wall street or in Congress who are responsible for the WORLDS BIGGEST ROBBERY IN HISTORY.
THE SINK HOLE OF RECESSION TURNS INTO A WORLD DEPRESSION.
Not Running Out to Buy Shares in Pfizer
the way you see them, I was wondering if you can sort through all the recent fluff of news releases and sudden uptick on 'MRNA'. After the stock went down almost 94% in the past 12 months, From $20 dollars to $.22 cents, the stock all of a sudden is up to $.50 cents? However their Burn rate is around $24 million per year with hardly any Revenue. Prior to the stocks demise, fund managers always ran the stock up and then sold it short. Is this gambling habit back after Wall Street debacle or is uptick demanding some merit for once?
Why I'm Buying Kendle International before Earnings
THEY ISSUED A LETTER OF CONCERN OF CONTINUANCE, THE STOCK HAS DEPRECIATED OVER 90% IN 12 MONTHS, AND THE BURN RATE IS HIGHER THAN THE POULTRY REVENUE THAT IS COMING IN.
ADD THE DE-LISTING NOTIFICATION BY NASDAQ AND WHAT YOU HAVE IS A COMPANY THAT ACTUALLY HAS ACHIEVED NOTHING IN 24 YEARS TO DATE. THE STATISTICS AND BALANCE SHEET ARE PATHETIC. AND LASTLY, THE YEAR END EARNINGS REPORT WILL SHOW THE BIGGEST LOSS YET.
YES FROM $20 DOLLARS TO $.35 CENTS AND STILL YOU HAVE SOME NIBBLING ON THE STOCK BECAUSE IT IS CHEAP.
THEY JUST DON'T GET IT AND THAT'S HOW COMPANIES LIKE THIS STILL EXIST!
MRNA: 9 MONTHS OF STOCK DOWNTREND AND IT IS STILL NOT OVER!
SOME LEARN FROM THE PAST AND OTHERS WHO HAVE BEEN DECIMATED CONTINUE TO CLING ONTO A STOCK THAT HAS A GRIM FUTURE AT BEST.
THIS ISN'T A COMPANY WITH A GOOD TRACK RECORD, CRYSTAL CLEAR BALANCE SHEETS, PLENTY OF MONEY ON HAND, LOW BURN RATE, A NEAR FDA APPROVAL WITHIN 24 MONTHS, BIG REVENUE, GREAT RETURN ON ASSETS, BUT A COMPANY THAT FACES DE-LISTING STATUS WITH THE NASDAQ.
AN OLD HORSE WITH A NEW JOCKEY DOESN'T MAKE THIS A KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER OVERNIGHT!
"YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND YOU GET PLENTY OF NEWS RELEASES FOR 24 YEARS AND NOTHING MORE".
MRNA: 9 MONTHS OF STOCK DOWNTREND AND IT IS STILL NOT OVER!
With about $10-$12 million in cash left, little or no revenue, and a burn rate of about $24 million per year, how is this company going to continue to pay expenses and exist?
At $.22 cents, no one is buying the stock either.
They still have to met the Nasdq letter of de-listing requirements yet.
Will that be a reverse split?
Partners and Big Pharma's are looking for companies with potential fda approvals in the near term before they partner up.
So what is going to make this company continue to exist?
